2017 Trend Predictions

COLOUR

The Dulux color forecast for 2017 draws its inspiration from exotic destinations from all over the world. Woven through muted tones, colour pallets are aiming to be earthy yet rich.  As we say goodbye to navy and midnight blues, dark shades of green will become the new must have dark interior colours.  Designers predict this will create the perfect backdrop for tan leather furniture, brass lamps and natural linens.

Nature inspired motifs, classic decorative patterns, and ethnic accessories are predicted to make more of an appearance this year.  The idea is to create a friendly and soft atmosphere without being too feminine.  We love the idea of using furniture and accessories that have interesting features, textures and materials, especially ones derived from nature.

UPHOLSTERED HEADBOARDS

Beds will change dramatically in 2017, with upholstered headboards set to replace the currently dominating timber bed frames.  Whether you decide on a classic model in a neutral colour with buttons, or a luxurious one in velvet, a headboard is an easy way to update and add instant glamour to a bedroom.  Here at Home Ingredients we have already added a few velvet headboards to our inventory collection.

ESCAPISM

Homes with nooks, alcoves and areas to escape into will become more popular as we respond to a rise in technologies.  We spend most of our time in front of computers and smart phones, leaving us with a desire to create comfortable, personalized work spaces.  Relaxed furniture and soft materials will make a greater presence as the work-from-home phenomenon continues.  We're seeing a greater appearance of comfortable furnishings such as deep sofas with linen slip covers, over sized love seats, day beds, sheepskins, chunky knit wool rugs and floor cushions.

NATURAL TEXTURES

Forecasts say we will see more raw materials such as metal and wood in 2017, these materials naturally change colors as they age, fabulously accenting modern interiors.  Unbleached fibers, rustic textures and plants can be mixed with beautiful décor and contemporary eco-friendly materials to make modern interiors look green, trendy and comfortable.  The urban metallic is predicted to leak into 2017 as well with a hint of Brutalism, mixing coppers and concrete.

Terracotta -  Warm materials like Terracotta tiles replace currently popular cool and white tones.  Unlike in the 80's, we won’t see them as border tiles but instead they will have a natural matte finish and be used as feature walls in bathrooms or for cladding fireplaces.

Cork -  Another material with high hopes to make a big appearance this year!  It’s great for bringing texture into spaces.  Not only is cork a stylish material, it’s also ideal for absorbing noise in our increasingly large, open plan homes and perfect for feature pin walls in offices.

Jewel Tones -  While pastel shades of blue & pink are currently popular, they will soon be overtaken by jewel tones inspired by metals, cosmos stars and clouds.  Metallic metals, raw-cut quartz, Lucite and opal will add a little sparkle and interest in accessories this year.  X-ray materials, transparent fabrics and sheers will create a lightness and soft romantic element to this trend.

Let us know what you predict for next year and how you'll be updating your home décor for 2017.  Until next time!
